RUNWAY: The Spectacle of Fashion

“The models staggered straight for us, the bodices of their tartan and lace dresses ravaged, their eyes wild, as if propelled by some ferocious, inner demons,” Alix Browne writes in the introduction to her new book, Runway: The Spectacle of Fashion on Alexander McQueen’s “Highland Rape” 1995 fashion show. “It’s an experience from which I don’t think I ever fully recovered.” Alix Browne is currently the features director of W Magazine and an adjunct professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York.  She curated a feature in our second volume dubbed ‘The New Normal'.  Her new book about contemporary  fashion spectacles published by Rizzoli comes out this week.

DIANE ARBUS: In the Beginning

 “I do feel I have some slight corner on something about the quality of things. I mean it's very subtle and a little embarrassing to me but I really believe there are things which nobody would see unless I photographed them.” Diane Arbus    It is via such self-awareness that we encounter some of the most provocative, innovative, and influential artists.  Famed contemporary female photographer, Diane Arbus currently has an exhibit of never before seen images at the Met Breuer.  The landmark exhibit features more than 100 photographs by the legendary artist, focusing on the first seven years of her career from 1956 to 1962, the period in which she developed her idiosyncratic style.

Turn gallery Hosted a launch party for our second volume, last July.  Master, Gosta Peterson, and his dear friend,   Linda Rodin, whom he is in conversation with in the publication, autographed our first 100 copies.   Turn Gallery is located at 37 East 1st New York.
